1. Selmer Clarinet Serial Number Chart

Up for your consideration is a vintage selmer bundy resonite bp clarinet with vintage geo m bundy #3 mouthpiece. Hard case and accessories are pictured. As with all my vintage instruments, this clarinet is being sold as is-as found with no guarantees. I am not a musician.

Unfortunately our serial numbering system and records were not set up for ease in locating this information. We currently manufacture or distribute several brands of wind instruments. Each one of these lines has numerous models of instruments and unfortunately in some cases each model has its own series of serial numbers. These series of numbers have not been maintained in separate lists but are recorded together in our sales records that begin in 1964. It can take a considerable amount of time to locate a particular serial number if we do not have any idea of the model or when it was originally sold.

Individuals reselling used instruments should be responsible for supplying details of the original purchase ie: warranty registration documents or sales receipt information which would confirm the model and serial number of the instrument and the date it was originally purchased. There is a Blue Book for Musical Instruments Published by Orion Research that is available to determine the value of many used instruments on the market today. Their web site is For appraisal of vintage instruments or historical information you may wish to contact the Shrine to Music Museum at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion. They may be able to provide you with a list of licensed qualified appraisers who specialize in different areas ie: strings, winds, keyboard, primitive etc.

This topic is of particular interest to me because I'm in a similar situation. I acquired a Selmer USA clarinet a few years ago and have been playing it ever since. I would love to no what the model is but other than a model number (1052), gold-plated keys and very nice grenadilla wood there is no way for me to determine the actual model name. I tried Selmer USA directly but they were of no help.

As well I've tried to track it on other sites that carry Selmer model numbers but again, no success. My tech says the wood is better than the Selmer Signet Soloists that she works on but she can't identify the model either. It appears that it was purchased in the early 90's, given the dates on the literature that came with the instrument.
